Archaeology Club

Mr. Heilman

Archaeology Club is open to all students interested in archaeology and history.  Students travel to museums, participate in archaeology digs, work in archaeological labs, and travel abroad. The club meets after school in C106

Art Club

Art Club creates murals for school dances, performs face painting at various events throughout the year, has studio time, and is involved in various community projects.

Band and Orchestra

These courses are offered within the regular school day; however, concerts, performances and travel extend these into after school activities and events.  Students involved in Band Front may be a part of the school band without enrollment in a specific course.

Business Club

Mr. Davidson

Business Club is open to all students.  The club experiences all aspects of the business field with a hands-on approach.  Past activities have been holding concerts and special events, investing in the stock market, seminars on business colleges, selling fundraisers and many other activities. This club meets in B205.  Listen to announcements for date and times of future meetings.

Academic Challenge

The Academic Challenge Team is for students who like to compete with other students on a variety of academic puzzles, trivia games, and general knowledge challenges.  Students will participate in a countywide competition as well as compete on the television show It’s Academic

Arts and Philosophy Club

Mr. Shrader

This is an open group that fosters lively conversations on the topics of philosophy and arts.  Questions are addressed, such as the meaning of life, and current events such as the Iraq War.   

Chamber Singers

Ms. Kauffman

An advanced group of students with musical talents that travels, competes and sings a cappella music in a Renaissance style without accompaniment.  Audition dates and times to be announced.  Rehearsals will be from 4 pm until 5 pm on Thursdays.

For students interested in singing this class offers numerous opportunities beyond the school day for activities such as concerts and other performances.

Drama Club

Mrs. Gore & Mr. Scanlan

Do you like to be one stage or are you a “behind the scenes” kind of person?  Either way, Drama Club is for you.  Drama Club will meeting every other Friday in the auditorium at 2:45 pm.  Drama Club will be attending the Maryland Renaissance Fair and Medieval Times during the school year.  A trip is planned to NY City in January to see The Little Mermaid, which is debuting on Broadway this year.  Performances this year will include Antigone, Fools, and Children of Eden.  Upcoming information is posted on the drama bulletin board outside the auditorium.  Dues are $10 per year.  Drama Club meets every other Friday in the auditorium.

Environmental Club

Environmental club is a service club where students can participate in environmentally friendly activities like environmental clean-ups and tree plantings but also students can bike, hike or camp with fellow students.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)

FCA is a group of students who come together to encourage one another in a spiritual way.  They meet every Wednesday morning in A103 for fellowship and breakfast snacks.  The gathering consists of time for sharing concerns and reading the Bible.  The group also participates as a group in activities outside of school.

Future Educators (FEA)

FEA is a national program for middle and high school students interested in exploring careers in education. 

FFA

Mr. Geiman

For students with interest in agriculture, animals, plants, natural resources, and sales and marketing.  The date of the first meeting will be announced during morning announcements. Dues are $15 per year; however, a fundraiser is used to offset the costs of dues. 

Key Club

Key Club is a service club co-sponsored by the school and Kiwanis International.  The group meets every Wednesday from 2:45 pm until 3:30 pm in Portable 5. 

Monday Club

This club is for students who are interested in one or all

of the following:  community service, disaster relief,

political awareness, and human rights.  The club meets

every Monday at 2:45 pm in D116.

Men’s Choir

For male students who have an interest in singing regardless whether the student is enrolled in a Chorus class.  One needs not have participated in a choir before.  This is a great opportunity to meet new people in all grades, try out a new skill and have fun.  The group meets after school from 2:45 pm until 4 pm on Thursdays.  Audition dates and times to be announced.

Multicultural Club

The purpose of the Multicultural Club is to provide an opportunity for students to discuss and learn about cultural differences without our student body.  Students will be encouraged to share their ethnic origin and to teach others about it.

Peer Facilitators

Peer Facilitating is a (elective) credit-bearing course for students interested in developing leadership skills which will permit them to recognize and intervene in problems identified in their school with their peers. 

Physics Club

Physics teachers

For students interested in pursuing skills and increasing their knowledge in fun, educational activities related to physics and science.  Club participates annually in the Physics Olympics, competing against other schools. 

Poetry Club

The focus of this club is to provide a forum in which students can help each other craft, revise, and otherwise discuss poetry of all types.  Interested members of the Poetry Club can also help publish the NC literature and art magazine. 

Project Linus

Project Linus is a national volunteer organization whose mission is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, created by the group’s members.  The club meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month from 2:45 pm until 4 pm in F14. 

Quo Vadis

Mr. Day

Quo Vadis the name of the NCHS yearbook.  Students who are creative and interested in bettering NC’s yearbook should consider becoming part of the yearbook committee.  Responsibilities include making the yearbook pages while trying to include everyone fro school in general candids. Yearbook is a first semester class.  Only juniors and seniors can be members of the yearbook committee, and interested students apply during the scheduling process.   

Ski Club

If you like to ski this is the club for you!  The club offers both Night Club events at Ski Liberty and long distance trips.  If you are interested in Night Club card events see Mr. Snyder.  Mrs. Frank oversees the trips to other resorts.  Listen to the announcements for information on our first meeting.

Now all Carroll County Schools will compete 4 times a year, culminating in the Carroll County Championship in February. We need motivated students who want to have fun debating as representatives of our school.  Monthly meetings for this student run organization include veteran coaching.

Spirit Committee

Works directly with the Student Government in activities such as school dances and spirit week.  Their main goal is to get the student body involved in making the activities at NCHS profitable but most of all fun for all.  We got spirit, how about you?  Listen to announcements concerning how to apply for spirit committee.

Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD)

The focus of this organization is to provide students with the best prevention and intervention tools possible to deal with issues of underage drinking, other drug use, impaired driving, and other destructive decisions.  Listen to announcements for meeting dates and times.

Student Government Association (SGA)

Mrs. Reed

Organizes school-wide fundraisers and extra curricular activities such as blood drives and dances.  Proceeds go towards NCHS needs and our community.  Works closely with the students and administration to make NCHS a productive environment.  SGA has elected and appointed offices that are open each year.  In addition, each advisory elects one SGA representative and one alternate to represent that advisory group at SGA General Assembly meetings.

The Sounds of Liberty (TSOL)

Tangents is NC’s art and literary magazine.  The staff is comprised of students who meet periodically to review artwork and literary works (short stories, poems, prose, song lyrics, comic strips, etc.) submitted by NC students for this annual publication.

Teens Against Poverty

A group of NC students who conduct a variety of fundraising activities in order to help needy families in the NCH area.  Meetings are normally schedule monthly after school.  The big event of the year for this club is the sponsorship of the Mr. North Carroll competition.

The purpose of this club is to rally not only part awareness but to provide an outlet for political discussion and learning. Within the club, we plan to work on political science class topics, volunteering for campaigns, as well as discussion of current political events.
