Carroll County Public Schools Outdoor School



Mary Hoy is from Carroll County. She is a graduate of Salisbury University. Mrs. Hoy has been working at the Outdoor School for 19 years. She enjoys teaching kids about the environment, planting gardens with kids, vacationing on the river, and learning.

Dean Mann is from central Pennsylvania and a Penn State graduate. Mr. Mann taught science and special education for ten years.  This is his third year at the Outdoor School. He enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter.  Mr. Mann loves nature and being outside.

Carly Miller is originally from Maine, but now calls Gettysburg, PA her home. She is a graduate of West Virginia University. This is Ms. Miller's tenth year at Outdoor School. She enjoys traveling, horseback riding, backpacking, hanging out with her family & three pups and just about anything to get outside!

Anne Riddle is orginally from Houston, Texas. This is her first year at the Outdoor School although she has taught science in Carroll County for 13 years. She enjoys kayaking, traveling to National Parks with her husband and her pup, Sundae. She also likes hanging out with her nieces and nephew.

Mandy Chappell is a Carroll County native and attended Outdoor School as a sixth grader and a counselor.  She is a graduate of Frostburg University and McDaniel College.  Mandy enjoyed working at Outdoor for 6 years before getting a new position teaching English as a second language. She is so excited to be a part of the Outdoor School program again this year!  In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and taking photos.

Sandy Rohwein is originally from the state of Washington. She is a graduate of Western Washington University, located in Bellingham, WA and moved to Maryland is 1994 and Carroll County in 2001. This is her first year at Outdoor School. She lives in New Windsor with her husband, four children, three dogs and two cats. She enjoys trail riding and fox hunting her Nokota pony as well as running, swimming, sewing and reading.

Tom Vail is originally from Woodlawn in Baltimore County and moved to Carroll County at age 11, where he still resides. Mr. Vail graduated from Liberty High School in 1992 and Western Maryland College in 1996. He has worked at the Outdoor School for 20 years. Mr. Vail has taught marching band at Liberty High School for the past 21 years. He enjoys music and plays guitar in two local bands.

Erin Fringeli, RN  grew up in upstate New York, and moved to Maryland, to Las Vegas, then back to Maryland again (her favorite!). Ms. Fringeli graduated from The University at Buffalo in New York with a BS in Nursing, and has spent many years working in Pediatric Intensive Care.  This is her sixth year at the Outdoor School. She enjoys running, snowboarding, knitting, reading, and spending time with her husband, two young children, her dog, Miles, and her rescued Hashawha kitties, Mango and Coconut.

Dawn Van Der Stuyf, RN is a Maryland native and loves rooting for the Terps! This is Ms. Van Der Stuyf's fourth year at Outdoor School. She enjoys camping and gardening and making a difference in people's lives.

Patsy Dahlberg, RN is originally from Ridgely, Md. She lives in Carroll County with her son and has a daughter who was recently married! Ms. Dahlberg received her nursing education at Towson University. This is her tenth year at the Outdoor School. Prior nursing experience includes 15 years as a surgical nurse at Carroll Hospital Center. Ms. Dahlberg loves Hashawha and loves the outdoors.

Andy Cunningham is from Maryland. This is his first year at Outdoor School and he has taught many elementary grades in Carroll County for the last 15 years. He loves being outside and working out as often as possible!
